SOLO-International Press Release: Nearing the End of the End — Political Correctness on the Supreme Court

President Chavez-Obama's appointment of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court because she's an Hispanic-American and a woman with unimpeachably politically correct credentials is another hefty nail in the coffin of American freedom, says SOLO Principal Lindsay Perigo.

"The blindfold has been further removed from the face of American justice in favor of rulings based on warm fuzzies and 'empathy,'" Perigo notes.

"Sotomayor believes in discrimination against whites. She is notorious for her decision in the Ricci v. DeStefano case, in which she was part of a panel ruling against a group of white New Haven firefighters who appealed after the city rejected the results of a promotion test because too many white firefighters scored highly. She and two other judges summarily dismissed the case in a one-paragraph opinion. Sotomayor's colleague, Judge Jose Cabranes wrote a lengthy dissent. 'This perfunctory disposition rests uneasily with the weighty issues presented by this appeal,' he wrote.

"The matter is now before the very Supreme Court to which Sotomayer has just been appointed.

"Sotomayor believes criminals should have the right to vote. She dissented from a 2006 opinion rejecting a challenge to a New York law denying convicted felons that right. She argued that the state law 'disqualifies a group of people from voting' and thus was discriminatory. It seems to have escaped her jaundiced attention that the law exists to protect the rights of individuals, regardless of to what group they belong.

"She once reversed a district court decision that a Muslim inmate's rights were not violated when he was denied a holiday feast, saying that the inmate's First Amendment rights were violated because the feast was important to his religion.

"In 1999, she dissented from a decision to dismiss a case in which a black student claimed his school discriminated against him by transferring him mid-year from first grade to kindergarten. She said the 'lone black child' in the class was not given an 'equal chance.'

"She can be seen on YouTube saying, '... the court of appeals is where policy is made,' and then attempting to laugh off the implications of what she has just said.

"She once ventured, 'I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life.'

"In short, she is the same purveyor of class, race and gender warfare that Chavez-Obama is, an enemy of the venerable, lawful axiom that the Supreme Court's job is to uphold the Constitution, not to rewrite it to conform to left-fascist, politically correct strictures.

"Not content with heightening America's vulnerability to attack from without, not content with deliberately bringing terrorists currently detained in Guantanamo onto American soil, Chavez-Obama is unleashing an attack on American institutions — and the premises on which they're based — from within.

"That Guantanamo should remain open is now clear to everyone. That Chavez-Obama himself should be detained there as an enemy combatant is looking increasingly appropriate and desirable," Perigo concludes.
