Hi, This is a hot button issue with me. And for me this topic has nothing to do with guns. It has to do with whether or not you are a free member of a civilized society. In no time in the course of human history has a dis-armed populace remained or become free.

Every time I put my gun on, I pray I won't have to use it. Then I ask that if I do have to use it, that I will use it with the wisdom of Soloman and the courage of Samson. I know I can hit what I aim at, I have trained to the point where reflex will overcome fear or anger, but I still don't ever want to drop the hammer on another human being. To protect my family, I have no doubts. To protect an unknown somebody, I don't know. I do know I will keep my self defense equipment, no matter what.
This issue for me, has to do w/ what Dan said as well as with the gun issue itself.
Paul - well said. I can't agree more. I only hope that if needed, I will be ready.
Now here is a question for Paul and any others who might carry: Is there any place legal that you do NOT carry. The reason I ask is that I believe one must be constantly vigilant at home, work, leisure, yard.......
There are too many instances where crime occurs where no one ever expected it to.
Cork,
I don't carry at home, I have an armed assassin that weighs over 100 lbs that is my first line of defense. He has already proven his worth with uninvited persons.
I don't carry in church, if my God can't protect me there, then I have been wrong about everything. Besides, there are weapons all around us if we need to use them. Amazing how quick a crazy will settle down with a bic in his eyeball. Any time I go uptown, or to the mall, or wherever there are strange persons, I pack.
Oh, dont ever go to the Willowbank building and forget to leave your piece in the vehicle. Those people have no sense of humor at all.
Paul.
Paul:
I can't yet own one of those armed assassins like you have because of lack of space. But I plan on having 2 as soon as I move (probably a couple years away yet). And when I do I will still be mentally and physically prepared to do what I must to try to defend me and mine as if my assassins were not there.
As to Religion: Please do not take this wrong - I do not wish to malign any ones personal beliefs. I would just like to state my own. I believe that my protection and the protection of my loved ones is solely my responsibility.
I know one can argue different passages from the Bible. This is not my intention here either. I just tend to lean more toward the following (not a Bible quote):
"God helps those who help themselves" which is probably the most often quoted phrase that is not found in the Bible. This is actually a quote from Ben Franklin and it appeared in Poor Richard's Almanac in 1757."
"An(other) old adage suggests that when we need Gods help in a special way, we should pray as if it all depends on God and work as if it all depends on us. That is faith and works in action. God does help those who help themselves."
This is just the way I see the world. Please take no offense.
Cork, No offense taken. Maybe my God is bigger than most peoples. He can make miracles happen and he can create Universes. If I believed a little more, I probably wouldn't need to carry, but that is my limitation, not God's. I admit when I go to a grandkids school function and have to leave Mr T under my car seat I feel naked. Same with sitting on jury duty or going to fix someone's computer in the courthouse. All offlimits by decree of the bureaucrats. Too many unelected, underqualified, pork hunters. (no, not wild bore,)
Anyway, I know where you are coming from, and I respect you for it.
until next time.
Paul
Yep - Texas is jumping on the Band Wagon too:

"Americans have been conditioned for decades to accept Washington's meddling in their lives. We have grown complacent, and we accept most new restrictions without batting an eye. As a result, Washington has gotten used to doing whatever it wants."
"With the appointment of Eric Holder as U.S. attorney general, we have the most anti-Second Amendment attorney general in the history of the nation," Berman said.
A bill by state Rep. Leo Berman exempting Texas-made firearms, gun accessories and ammunition sold within the state from federal regulation and law -- including registration -- was heard in a House committee on Monday.
"I think Leo is right about the Constitution," he (Tyler attorney and gun rights advocate Sean Healy) said. "The founders intended for the federal government to have the powers specifically given to it in the Constitution, and the states and the people to keep the power to do everything else."
Montana passed a similar bill earlier this month, and a court challenge is expected when the law goes into effect in October."It's a gun bill, but it's another way of demonstrating the sovereignty of the state of Montana," said Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer, a Democrat.
