The “A year later, no cure for politics” (CDT article) story dealing with a grant application for a new medical technology is yet another reason to abolish the Unconstitutional law and to remove ourselves from socialized medicine such as Medicare and Medicaid. The need to be politically connected to obtain money to fund studies to see if the device or drug is viable and safe is unfair. It most often rewards those who have contributed to campaigns or are well connected while prevent others from bringing what could be cost saving and more importantly life saving techniques to the medical community. In a true free market where you would pay directly for medical services and medications would be the best approach to reduce costs and reward those who created great medical breakthroughs. You could also go a long way to cutting the regulations insurance companies are currently under where they are mandated covered countless drugs, procedures and just allow the insurance purchaser to pick and choose what their plan contains. When the market is allowed to decide prices everyone wins as it creates incentives to make everything better and cheaper. Just look at Lasik eye surgery which is paid directly by the consumer. The prices continue to plummet and make it more affordable for more and more folks. Less government is better for all.
