Event Description

Mr. Don Stinson, a former Nixon/Ford White House Aide will be giving a lecture about his first hand accounts on Watergate and the Nixon

Presidency on Monday, March 22, 2010 in 105 Forum @ 8:00 PM

Here is some more information about the event and Mr. Stinson!

A member of the White House staff at the age of 17, Don Stinson gained a front row seat to some of the most controversial events in American political history. He became a firsthand witness to the resignation of Vice President Spiro Agnew, the chaos of Watergate, the resignation of Richard Nixon and the ascension of Gerald Ford to the American presidency.

Mr.Stinson’s lecture will include a sneak preview of his upcoming book, "Downstairs at the White House."

Hear about his many "What was I thinking?" moments including:

- Calling Gerald Ford “Mr. President” a day early and buying the chairman of PepsiCo a Coke.

- Being told his teenage voice was clearly audible on the Watergate tapes.

- Involuntarily joining a friend in telling White House reporters that Nixon wasn't going to resign after all ... about a minute before the President went on national television.

Come and listen to these and many more memorable, hilarious and often unbelievable stories about Mr. Stinson's time working at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Currently head of a corporate, public affairs and political strategy firm based in Nashville, Tennessee, Mr. Stinson spent almost thirty years as a senior executive in the newspaper industry. He is an honorary member of the Union of Russian Journalists, a member of the president's council of the Nixon Library Foundation, the American Association of Political Consultants and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.

In 1976, he was chairman of the District of Columbia College Republican Federation and a member of the College Republican National Committee.

Mr. Stinson holds a B.A. in Political Science from the School of Public Affairs at American University and executive credentials from Harvard Business School, Cornell University and M.I.T.
