As you are all probably aware, the senate needs to vote to proceed on the bill before being able to vote to pass the bill. They may vote as early as Saturday to proceed. They need 60 votes to proceed or the bill dies. I wrote to Casey and Specter telling them that a yes vote will be the end of their political careers. Both of them are likely to ignore the message, but I would urge you all to do the same today or tomorrow. Also, of the consevative democrats listed above, Nelson, Landrieu and Lincoln are still on the fence. Lincoln is up for re-election next year. Please join me in e-mails (http://lincoln.senate.gov/contact/email.cfm) and phone calls to her office ([phone]) to tell her to vote no on proceeding to bring the bill to the floor for a final vote. This is the last real chance to stop it. If the bill goes to a vote, some version of the house and senate bills will likey pass because the house will vote for whatever they can get and senate democrats will only need 51 votes to get it passed.

Here is a letter everyone can use to e-mail Senator Lincoln that might just get her attention:

DEAR SENATOR LINCOLN

By now you are aware that yours is a key vote in the attempt by your party to make extreme changes to our health care system, changes which I believe could be harmful my family, my friends and my country. Because your vote is so important, I believe you represent not only Arkansans but Americans from other states as well. With this in mind, I make the following pledge:

I hereby pledge to donate my money and time to your Republican opponent in the 2010 election in the event you do any of the following:

1. IF YOU Vote to send the so-called “Baucus bill” from the Senate Finance Committee to the Senate Floor.

2. IF YOU Vote YES on any health care reform bill that includes a “Public Option” or Single-payer program.

3. IF YOU Vote YES on any bill that has not been completely written and published in full on the Library of Congress Thomas system website for a minimum of 72 hours.

4. IF YOU Vote YES on any bill that cuts funding from Medicare.

5. IF YOU Vote YES in any CLOTURE vote that allows such bills to come to vote before the full Senate.

6. IF YOU Vote YES on any bill or legislation that uses the “Nuclear Option” to sidestep Constitutional requirements.
