It could be said that the Russians shrugged and that is why the Soviet Union collapsed. We may end up doing the same.
What brings that to mind is a friend of mine who escaped Russia before the fall of the wall gave me an answer to the question why the Russians fell that I wont forget "We pretend to work, and they pretend to pay us"
Huh I ask???
He elaborated. Borris and Alex go to work. Borris drink like crazy, Alex work like crazy and at the end of the week they get paid the same. Next week Borris drink like crazy , Alex work not so hard and they get paid the same. Next week Alex and Borris drink like crazy and they get paid just the same.
It has taken me years to finally comprehend the meaning/results.
They gave up because there was no need to work, the equivalent of a strike is the natural default to non productivity.
