Maybe other folks have seen this, but is was news to me. do searches on H.R. 675 and S.773 (or S.r. 773). Two very important things that are also going on while we focus so much on Health Care. One allows for the civil security force, run through DoD and the other allows the government to close down internet access in cas of an "emergency". Scarey stuff. Ignore the man behind the curtain....
Greetings,

You know that we are not in the habit of espousing our political views on a regular basis. However, the urgency of the situation our country is facing has spurred us to action.

First, let us say that no organization or political party has asked us to "write to all your friends and say ..." We are just regular citizens who are very concerned about the direction our country seems to be heading. And, at breakneck speed.

Our national debt has just recently exceeded $1 Trillion; and that's just since January 1. That is more than at any time in our history and we still have 6 months to go in the year. No, Mr. Biden, we cannot avoid national bankruptcy by spending more money.

To add to the crushing, future debt, Congress is considering two pieces of legislation. First is called Cap and Trade. The other is Health Care Reform. Even the Congressional Budget Office has concluded that neither program will have its desired impact and will only add to our rising debt.

Cap and Trade, boiled down to its essence, is a tax on those who pollute. Examples include those who produce electricity, gasoline, and heating fuel, to name a few. These companies will have no choice but to pass on those expenses to their consumers in higher prices for their products (that's you and me). This will have even more dire consequences on those who can afford it least: the poor.

The Congressional Budget Office projects that the health care reform package as currently proposed will cost at least $1.5 Trillion, with no savings in health care costs at any time. Universal health care does not work and we only have to look at Great Britain or Canada to see our future. Life saving treatments or therapies are denied because they are deemed to be too expensive. We need to make affordable health care available to more people, but a government program is not the answer.

We are urging you as our friends to contact your U.S. Representative and Senators. Tell them that you will be watching how they vote on these issues. Let them know that you vote and their actions will have a significant impact on your actions in the voting booth. If you are so inclined, tell them you might even work for their opposition.

These bills are being pushed through at a speed second only to the growth of our national debt. Votes are to be taken as early as August, before their Summer Recess. The only way to stop them is to let your legislators know that they are being watched and that you will remember come election time.

Contact information for your Representative or Senators is available from www.numbersusa.com.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. We hope it spurs you to action; before it's too late.

I decided to create a new discussion for this topic, since it wasn't really related to the Community Service bill.

Yes, this food safety bill is scary to me. I got a copy of it, and read it (well, not the whole thing, but enough to know what the issue is). The effect of the bill on a local gardener is scary, and it comes from the definition of a "Food Production Facility" in the bill, which is:

(14) FOOD PRODUCTION FACILITY.—The term
‘‘food production facility’’ means any farm, ranch,
orchard, vineyard, aquaculture facility, or confined
animal-feeding operation.

The problem is that this definition could apply to home gardens, too. In other parts of the "definitions" section of the bill, specific exclusions are made, but not in this one.

The bill then goes on to place a bunch of onerous requirements on "Food Production Facilities".

I don't think it is the intent of this bill to target home gardeners, and I bet they will add some exclusions.

However, it is more scary to me, what this bill will do to the cost of food production. In order to comply with this bill, everyone in the food supply chain will have new requirements imposed, that will cost them money. Larger farms might be able to meet these requirements, but smaller farms might not.

If you increase the cost of food at every level in the supply chain, that will increase the cost of food to us! Add to that the increases from Cap and Trade, and all the other socialist programs, and our cost of living will go way up!

Yes! I want my food to be safe - but I also want to be able to afford it! HR 1388 - The Brown Shirts are Forming!tag:wesurroundthemcentrecounty.ning.com,2009-03-27:3029713:Topic:16012009-03-27T11:56:18.712ZKarenhttp://wesurroundthemcentrecounty.ning.com/profile/Karen
At the last Centre County Republican lunch one of our members stood up and ask Glenn Thompson's represenative to the lunch (does anyione know his name) about two bills. One was about a national "volunteer" bill, the other question related to food saftly and farming. Glenn's rep said he had no idea what the questioner was referring to and that we should not believe everything we read on the Internet.

Well, as it turned out, I had a seat across the table from this rep. I told him what I had heard about these two bills. He assured me this was not anything in the works . . .maybe it was something discussed as an idea in a committee. He further assuered me he would know about such a bill . . . that was two weeks ago.

I breathed a sigh of relief and vowed not to over react to all I heard and read on the Internet. This morning I wake up to find HR 1388 passed the house yesterday. It will be up for vote in the Senate soon. See bill and other documents at the link below.

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.R.1388:

I have not had time to read this bill as I need to get to the office. I found out about the passage on my favorite morning xm radio show Quinn and Rose. www.warroom.com On their website, they post a "wall of shame" where all Republicans who vote on a bad bill have their names posted. Our beloved Glenn Thompson's name was on this bill as voteing "YES"

From the high lights I have heard . . . this is the start of a scary indoctrination program for our youth who must attend a "bootcamp" style program before they can volunteer. I will read this bill .. . I urge you all to read this bill and take action so it does not pass the Senate. To me this seems like the start of the formation of our version of the "Brown Shirts"
